Be Consistent: Whatever you do, be consistent. A horse values consistency because it can always be sure of what is expected. Mixed signals, different rules for different locations (in the stall vs. in the pasture), various handlers using conflicting cues — all lead to confusion and then resentment on the part of the horse. Remember, whenever you're handling your horse, you're communicating with your horse, so be consistent always. Many people change once they get in the saddle. You must be the same in the saddle as you are on the ground. Otherwise, your horse will react to the change in your behavior; it isn't consistent.

This year was one for the record books, and you can experience it all on this 2008 DVD, produced by Tootie Bland and directed by John Fox.

The recent clinic in Tunica, MS was the best thing my wife and I have done since having our twins. I'm not a trainer, roper, or cutter, but still love my horses the same. The bond you have with your horse steps beyond what you breed, what you wear, or you do for a living. You helped me understand that the frustrations I have is due to the things that I don't know, not with my horse. You hit it squarely when you stated that the more you understand, the more you search to know. This weekend, I learned a lot about the mind set of horses, but I think I learned just as much about myself. It is amazing to see that the things we don't understand is often the obvious. It's the human, not the animal that over-complicates things! Perfect weekend!!

p.s. J. Parson was a great addition--loved it
